Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

The SEgoesGreen Policy Recommendations in WP5 aimed to integrate Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and sustainability into the curriculum of higher education in the form of Social Economy (SE) disciplines.
The project findings revealed that while universities increasingly embrace sustainability concepts, the integration of applied interdisciplinary environmental education into SE curricula remains considerably lacking. SEgoesGreen Policy Recommendations, offer a carefully developed strategic plan, intentionally organized into seven strategic priority areas:
- Needs Assessment: Conduct institutional and national audits to identify the gaps in green skills and use tools like GreenComp.
- Curriculum Development: Align academic programs with sustainability goals by integrating challenge-based, interdisciplinary learning modules.
- Empowering faculty means providing training and peer exchange opportunities to enhance confidence and stimulate innovation in teaching for sustainability.
- Innovative delivery: Adopt a combination of delivery modes like living labs, MOOCs and lifelong learning formats to keep NBS education accessible and relevant.
- Awareness and Engagement: Foster a vibrant campus culture while empowering students and the community to participate through clubs, hackathons, and collaborative partnerships.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop key markers of sustainability indicators, regularly evaluate impact, and incorporate evidence-led adaptations and stakeholder-led direction.
- Good practices: Follow the lead of good practices from a European scale and beyond, to improve teaching and learning in HEIs.
The SEgoesGreen Policy Recommendations report, entails aligning policies and best practices with European initiatives such as the Green Deal as well as with projects like Climate-KIC and Green Offices.
Adopting these principles will allow policymakers and institutions to enable a systematic, inclusive, and efficient integration of green skills into the social economy's education system.
